Call for Submissions – Directors and Plays for 2018-2019 Season!
Lakeshore Players Dorval is a not-for-profit, volunteer-based community theatre company that has been delivering professional-quality live shows in the West Island of Montreal for over 50 years.
The company mounts three major productions per season, each running for a two-week period, and is looking to program next year’s plays. This year, we are asking directors to submit a play they would like to direct for our 2018-2019 season.
Candidates whose shows have been selected would then cast and rehearse the show over approximately 10 weeks with three rehearsals per week (evenings & weekends). Compensation by honorarium.
Interested candidates should submit a letter of intent presenting their chosen production and vision for its implementation as well as an artistic resume and a copy of the play, if possible. (If not, please provide info on where it may be obtained, i.e. Samuel French, Dramatists Player Service, etc.)
Please send all inquiries and applications to Natalie Darbyson at lpdirectorscall@gmail.com.
DEADLINE FOR APPLICATION IS JANUARY 22nd 2018. INTERVIEWS WILL BE HELD ON OR AROUND THE WEEK OF JANUARY 29th. Details will be provided to the applicants as the interview dates approach.
Play Submission Guidelines
(please note these are not set in stone, but as a general idea of the plays we are looking for)
-Plays with popular appeal that are accessible and can be enjoyed by people of various ages and backgrounds
-Historically, certain genres tend to do well at Lakeshore Players, particularly farces, murder mysteries and comedies (nonetheless, we are open to other genres)
-No longer than 2 hours to perform (not counting intermission)
-No musicals; some singing or music is okay
-Ideally, little to no profanity; vulgar or other offensive content is discouraged
-Plays that can be produced on budget (set, lighting, costumes, etc.)
-Manageable amount of sets (for our construction crew) A unit set is always welcome
-Cast size 6-12 actors total, ideally with a balance of women, men and ages (however, this is not a deal-breaker)
-Limited lighting requirements (budget & tech limitations)
-No Hazers or smoke machines (forbidden by venue)
-No wire-flying stunts or trap doors (not possible at venue)
